Semi-Charmed 2014 Winter Book Challenge // Preliminary List

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that Kyle has started a blog and you can check it out here. He’s hoping to post about once a week, and I will be writing a few posts as well. He also posted his first guest post yesterday at Life in the Sunshine for McKenzie’s Tough Topics series! So you should check that out as well.

Today I’m also linking up with Megan and joining the Semi-Charmed 2014 Winter Book Challenge. This week we are linking up our preliminary book list! I can’t wait to dive into some of these books — let’s see how I do!

5 points: Freebie! (Finished 11/27/14)
Wildwood Creek, Lisa Wingate (375 pages).
10 points: Read a book written by an author who has published at least 10 books.
This one will be a Jodi Picoult novel that I haven’t read yet. I’ll have to wait and see which one I can pick up at the library! PS, she has written 24 books.
10 points: Read a book of short stories. (Finished 1/31/15)
10 points: Read a book with a food in the title. (Finished 11/10/14)
A Clockwork Orange, Anthony Burgess (213 pages).
15 points: Read the first book in a series that is new to you. (Finished 12/11/14)
Divergent, Veronica Roth (487 pages). Yep, haven’t read these yet….
15 points: Read a book that was originally written in a language that is not your native language. (Finished 1/28/15)
Madame Bovary, Gustave Flaubert (originally written in French, 329 pages). I think I was supposed to read this for a class in college, as it’s sitting on my bookshelf. However, I’m pretty sure that I did not. So. I guess I should now.
15 points: Read a book written by a local author.
Housekeeping, Marilynne Robinson (219 pages). She was born in Idaho, and this book takes place in a town based on Sandpoint, which is only about an hour north from me.
20 points: Read a “bookish book.”
The Thirteenth Tale, Diane Setterfield (406 pages). This one will be a re-read, but I loved it the first time and am excited to read it again.
20 points: Read a book with a direction in the title. (Finished 2/22/15)
East of Eden, John Steinbeck (601 pages). It’s about time I read this classic, don’t you think?
25 points: Read a book from a genre you don’t usually read. (Finished 11/25/14)
Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet, Sara Hagerty (202 pages). This is a non-fiction, Christian book, and I don’t usually read books like that.
25 points: Read a book with a song lyric in the title. (Finished 11/2/14)
Bittersweet, Miranda Beverly-Whittemore (“Bittersweet,” Panic! at the Disco; 400 pages).
30 points: Read two books with a different meal in each title. (Finished 1/12/15)
Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant, Anne Tyler (303 pages).
Breakfast Served Anytime, Sarah Combs (272 pages).

Do you want to join in? Have you read any of the books I’ve picked? I want to hear your thoughts on them!
