You’ll Get Through This

In my church congregation, I am currently called to be a leader of the 14-15 year old girls, and I love it! I teach them lessons on Sunday, and we also have group activities one time a week. It’s been so fun to get to know these lovely girls, and to help them on their journey. I’m going to miss them so much when we move (this week!). Yesterday was my last Sunday to teach them, and I wrote them all little notes with my testimony inside and other little nuggets of wisdom I felt inspired to share. One of the girls has been having a tough time recently, and I shared this quote with her:

Max Lucado’s book You’ll Get Through This takes a look at all the turbulent times we can and will go through, and using the story of Joseph in the Old Testament, helps us see that God will help us through it all. And I love this visualization he uses — that Satan weaves the trouble in our lives, but God uses it, he reweaves it, to make it good, to make it a beautiful story.

I want my girls to know that this is true. There will be hard times in our lives. We will be hurt and lonely and sad and mad, and that is because we are mortal beings living in a mortal world, but that doesn’t mean that God is not looking out for us. He is. He knows everything. And He loves us. That is why he will take the hurt and the pain that we feel, and if we let Him, He will turn it into something beautiful.

I have to admit, a few of Max Lucado’s books are similar to me. They all mostly deal with trials and tribulation and how God helps us during those times. So while I enjoyed this book, it wasn’t anything new to me. But, I did enjoy how he weaved the story of Joseph throughout the book, and I think it would be a useful tool for those who might need an extra boost during hard times. (My favorite book of his is still Before Amen.)
