What I Read | June + July 2015

It’s been a while since I’ve written a what I read post — since April, actually! I gave a small update here of books I read in May (scroll down to the bottom of the post), and today I’ll share with you the books I read in June and July.

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
2 stars. This kind of book isn’t usually my cup of tea, but a friend gave it to me to try, so I did! And… It was ok. The book is set in the 1850’s and is about a prostitute who marries a farmer. The farmer believes that God has called him to love and rescue this woman, but doesn’t realize all the baggage that she carries could keep them apart. It’s a sweet story of love and redemption, but it dragged on for me. If it seems like something you would like to try, go for it! It’s not terrible by any means, just not my favorite.

How Sweet The Sound by Amy K Sorrells
3 stars. Another story of God’s redeeming love. This one centers around 3 generations of a prominent family in the south and the family secrets that they keep, and how it nearly destroys their family. It deals with some trigger topics (rape, incest, murder) but in a delicate way, and the end is sweet. It’s a solid Christian read, so if that’s what you’re in the mood for, give it a try.

Something About Sophie by Mary Kay McComas
2 stars. So I picked this up at the dollar store a few weeks ago, because the premise sounded interesting enough and I was dying to read something. It’s an interesting enough story, full of small town intrigue and secrets, and I don’t regret the time reading it by any means — there are just better books out there.

All in all, June and July were kind of a bust. But never fear! I’ve got some great books on the docket for August, so I’ll be excited to share them with you next month!
