After Eliza was wiped up, weighed, measured, etc. they brought her back over to me and Kyle and I just stared at her sweet face. We stayed in our delivery room for a couple of hours as they cleaned me up and checked to make sure that everything was going ok as far as I was concerned. They then transferred us down to our postpartum room, where we stayed for the next 24 hours or so.
Our first picture with Eliza – within an hour of her birth.
First item of business was ordering lunch π I am alllll about hospital food. I think it’s delicious! We texted family and friends, posted on social media, etc. to let everyone know our sweetheart was here. The nursery nurse then took Eliza for a little while to give her her first bath, etc., and Kyle went with to watch and take some pictures. I opted to stay in my room and rest.
A couple hours after that, Kyle’s mom and dad came to visit with Abe. Abe wasn’t so sure about it, since I was in a strange bed, and the hospital room was strange and new, too. He mostly just explored the room, although he did point to Eliza a couple of times.

Kyle and I stayed overnight, and we opted to have the nursery take Eliza so we could get some sleep. (The hospital where we had Abe didn’t have that option, and I had told Kyle if this one did, I was taking advantage of it!) We thought they were only going to take her for a couple of hours, but ended up taking her for like 8! They brought her back around 8 am, which we didn’t mind. It was nice to get some shut eye — as much as you can when you have nurses in and out to take your vitals π
We kind of puttered around the next day. I showered and got dressed in my “going-home” clothes. We had a photographer come in and take newborn pictures. My friend Jessica came to visit around noon, and then we got all of our things together, and were discharged.
We had wonderful nurses and doctors who took such great care of us while we were in the hospital, and I’m so grateful for them, and modern medicine. We are so happy our little lady is here, and have loved every second of having here at home.
I’m still planning on writing a post about a vaginal delivery recovery versus a cesarean delivery recovery, which is why I didn’t go into all the details of my recovery in this post. I’m also going to be writing about our (breast)feeding journey and decision, so, again, I didn’t focus on that in this post, either. I’m looking forward to sharing both of those posts with you!
