Breaking Busy

We’re all trying to find that sweet spot of being productive and the best you can be. It’s hidden there, somewhere in between the lazy side of you and the side of you that over-exerts herself by saying yes to every single opportunity. We know it’s there, but it takes so much effort to find it.

I mentioned a while ago that I was reading The Best Yes – and what a great book that is! Lysa takes us on a journey to find our “soul thing” and to stop feeling guilty about saying no to some things, and finding those things that we should say yes too. But I was thinking there was a little bit more to it than that – and then, poof, like magic, Breaking Busy was basically dropped into my lap. In this book, Alli talks to us about how to STOP BEING SO BUSY.

Breaking Busy

So many of us are on go, go, go 24/7, 375. There’s not enough time in our day to accomplish all the things it seems we need to do, so we wake up earlier, and/or stay up later, and we are constantly feeling burnt out.

That is not how life was meant to be lived.

Life is meant to be joyful, not stressful. Life is meant to be happy, not sad. Life is meant to be cherished, not despised. We should not be going to bed dreading the next morning. And Alli shows us how to change our life from one of dread and stress to joy and peace. We can still be productive and a good mom/wife/friend/Christian even if we aren’t doing all the Pinterest things all the time.

One thing Alli mentions in Breaking Busy that I LOVE is that we don’t have to be everything to everyone. We don’t have to be a youth leader and a room mom and a super mom and a super wife and a little league coach and a best friend and a manager at work and…… You get the idea. It’s ok to say “no” to coaching your kid’s soccer team. It’s ok to not be a room mom or part of the PTA. It’s ok to have to take a step back at church or at work.

It’s ok.

And when we take that step back, and reevaluate our priorities, and involve God in all our decisions, and look at what we actually like to do versus what we think we should be doing, our lives will get so much easier. They might still be hectic and busy and full, but they will be full of the things that we were meant to do.

I would highly, highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone. And if you read it alongside The Best Yes, well, that is perfection. (Lysa has even posted about how she enjoyed Alli’s book.) Oh, and bonus? On Alli’s website there is a free digital toolkit that you can use alongside the book – with images to share and download along with other tools. Check it out!

I have to pause and say one thing before ending this post. This post is most likely the last full post that is sponsored by Family Christian. The wonderful head of the blogging program is moving on, and FC is outsourcing social media and PR to a 3rd party, and it is unknown whether the blog program will continue – but it probably won’t. I have absolutely loved being affiliated with this company during the last 15 months or so, and I hope you have enjoyed the books and other products I’ve shared.

I received free product from Family Christian in exchange for an honest review.
