What I Read Jan 2016

Oh I love me some good reading. I read some good books this month (and maybe one not so good book…) and I love getting back into the reading groove. Right now I generally read at night while feeding Eliza, or when Kyle has Abe and I’m relaxing holding a sleeping Eliza. It’s a pretty good system.

If I Fall, If I Die* by Michael Christie

2 stars. Ugh, this book. I got this book forever ago from Blogging For Books and finally got around to reading it. The premise sounded interesting, and I enjoyed it for the first few chapters, but then it just got… Weird. The plot involves a young boy (11, I think, as the story begins) who lives in a house with his single mother, who has terrible anxiety, and neither of them have left the house in about 7 or 8 years. Like I said, it starts off interesting, as he ventures outside the house and we learn the mom’s back story, but then weird men that make moonshine and have pet wolves and kill people show up and all sorts of weird things happen, and what?! Yeah, it’s so strange. Although there was a little plot twist at the end that I didn’t see coming, which I probably would have seen if I wasn’t so distracted by how terrible the book was. Anyway. I didn’t like this book much, the end.

More Than The Tattooed Mormon by Al Carraway

5 stars. I was a part of the book tour in November, but I took the time this month to read it slower, without a deadline, and I LOVED IT. Al tells her conversion story and weaves in so much great advice throughout it. Her conversion story is really a story of happiness and how the Gospel has brought so much joy into her life, and I love it, because the Gospel brings me that joy, too.

Just Show Up by Kara Tippetts

5 stars. I loved this book. I don’t even know what to say about it. I based my phrase of the year off of this book and just love it so much. Short story? This book is all about showing up for the people in your life, even in (especially in) times of heartache and sickness. We need to show up and follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost in order to be a friend to those around us. Just read this book. Please. It’s so amazing.

And so that’s what I read. Have you read any of these books? What did you think?
