A Coffee Date | Vol. 2

A Coffee Date

Hi friends. I’m so sorry I’ve been a little scarce around this blog lately. It’s not for lack of ideas or motivation. The last month has just been insane. I have a handful of half-finished drafts laying around, but just haven’t been able to finish any of them. So today, instead of finishing any of them, I thought I’d write a little update, coffee date post, to let you know what I’ve been up to, and what’s been on my heart.

First off, if we were on a coffee date, I’d probably be sipping on a hot chocolate, with some caramel or hazelnut flavoring. We’ve had some warm days this spring, but the last little bit has been rainy and cool, perfect for a hot drink. I’d then probably start to tell you about what a crazy few weeks we’ve had. And oh, I am feeling the crazy.

In the last month we have: taken a trip to Utah (me + the kids), worked a 60 hour work week (Kyle had his regular schedule + a 2 day training + presented at a conference + was on call), worked five 12 hour days on our yard tilling, raking, mulching, laying sod and painting our shed, among other things (mostly Kyle), had colds (all of us), gone on a 3 day work trip (Kyle), driven 1.5 hours to have lunch with a group of friends then driven home (me), taken seven 12-13 year olds on an overnight camp-out in the rain (Kyle), babysat a friends 4 year old and 1 year old 3 times, once for 4 hours and twice for 8 hours (me), and basically tried to keep us all fed and our house in some sort of order (me, and let’s be honest, the order part was mostly a fail).

Welcome to our life, y’all.

I’d tell you that I’m looking forward immensely to June. June is going to be my catch-up, calm month. Or so I hope. We have hardly anything scheduled, and I’m wanting to keep it that way. Looking forward, our July and August are going to be extremely busy (but fun!), so June is not only my catch-up month, but my prep month, my calm before the storm month.

If we were on a coffee date, I’d tell you how much I wish that Eliza was sleeping through the night. I’m planning on doing a bit of sleep training with her, but I’ve been waiting for a weekend when Kyle was home and that we didn’t have plans so we could do it together (and not have to go anywhere exhausted), so that should happen the first weekend in June. Ellie is just a more difficult baby than Abe ever was. She’s either happy or super cranky, it takes quite a bit to get her to stay asleep, and she is a snacker so she eats often. But she’s also so precious and sweet and cute (and is 6 months old!). Abe is just the best, as always. He has his naughty moments, but mostly he’s just a big helper. He’s starting to speak in 2-3 word sentences, and just yesterday said “Hi, Daddy” for the first time, which I think about made Kyle’s heart burst.

I’d then start to tell you about how I’ve been spending more time reading the scriptures lately, and how my gratitude for my Father in Heaven and my Savior, Jesus Christ is just expanding more than ever. God is so good, friends. So good. Even in the midst of this craziness called life, He’s always there. Isn’t that amazing? Can I share with you a couple more places you can read about what’s been on my heart lately? They’re here and here. I hope you like them. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed with peace and love and joy in Christ lately, and I hope you can feel those same feelings, too.

Oh sweet friends, thanks for taking the time out of your day to chat with me. I’m always so thankful to have friends like you. Feel free to drop a line or two below, and let me know what you’d tell me on our coffee date! I want to hear all about your lives.
