Fairest by Marissa Meyer
3 stars. And even 3 stars is a stretch. It’s probably closer to 2.5. This is a book in the Lunar Chronicles, that tells the backstory of Levana, the villain. And it was dumb. Why is everyone on Lunar so mean? Levana, Channary, their parents…. I pretty much hated everyone in this book. I’m glad she wrote it, as backstories in books are always appreciated it, but it didn’t do much for me.
Where’d You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple
4 stars. I really liked this one! The story is told through letters, emails, transcripts, and a bit of 3rd person. I loved that the plot was a new one, too. One thing I found so interesting was the fact that it really is a commentary on how we all perceive things different, and how quickly things can be misconstrued. We never know the whole story. I was also happy that the character that I really hated throughout the book was redeemed in the end! That made the book for me, instead of leaving me with a sour taste in my mouth about how awful she was.
Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll
3 stars. I go back and forth on whether I enjoyed this book. Ani’s “secret” (which is not really a secret, because everyone but the reader knows about it during the whole book….) was interesting to me as I enjoy reading about that type of event (no spoilers here today, folks!) but the way it unfolded wasn’t as interesting. Like I said, the synopsis makes it seem that there’s this huge secret, but that’s not really true. I think that’s what bugged me the most. It wasn’t as dark as I expected it to be, either. All in all, the plot was more or less interesting, but the way it was portrayed was not.
I’m also currently in the middle of The Night Circus. I thought I’d finish it in April (and I might still, since I’m writing this a few days in advance) but I’ll include it next month. I’m really enjoying it, though!
