Five On Friday | Vol. 6

I’m so excited to share a little update on our family, and what we’ve been up to! But my goodness, where to even start? It’s been a couple of months since I’ve done a Five On Friday post (last one here) and I feel like have soooo much to tell you! Let’s see if I can get it all into 5 points, eh?

Five On Friday

1 | A Weekend In Utah

We’ll start off with the weekend I spent in Utah, oh, about 2 months ago now. Me and the kids drove down (Kyle stayed home and painted my front door and my bathroom! Reveal coming…. Sometime….) and we stayed at my wonderful in-laws home. They watched my kids that Saturday as I went to a craft fair and expo, and lunch, with two of my sister-in-laws. It was so much fun to have a little girls day with them! Then that Monday we went to lunch with one of my college besties, Sarah and her husband. Sarah is my person.  Everyone needs a Sarah in their life. She and Tyler live in KY but were out in Utah for her brother’s college graduation (what, Jackson, how are you so old?) and I was so glad we met up. We ate at the BYU Creamery (bless) and wandered around the campus bookstore, for old time’s sake 😉 Love her.

2| Creating Our Yard

The first week in May Kyle took off the full week to do some projects around the house and yard – the biggest one being getting our backyard ready for sod and laying the sod. His dad came up to help that whole week and we are so grateful! It was so helpful to Kyle to have another adult there to help him, because it was hard work! When we first moved in last year, our backyard was covered in weeks, some as tall (or taller) than me. So we had our work cut out for us. They spent the week tilling up the ground, laying compost, tilling in the compost, raking and rolling the dirt, and of course, laying the sod. They also painted our shed, and did a few other little things around the house. It is SO nice to have a backyard now! We love it. (Shout out to our neighbors who showed up to help us lay the sod, and my MIL and BIL for driving up to help, too!) Since then we’ve planted some veggies in our garden box, and are enjoying watching them grow.

3 | Our 6th Anniversary

That week also happened to bring with it our 6th anniversary. Since Kyle’s dad was in town, we went on a little lunch date to celebrate while the kids were napping. 6 years, wow. I feel so lucky to be Kyle’s wife.

4 | Other Random Notables

One Saturday in May I drove down to a little town in Utah to have lunch with a few of my besties. We don’t see each other too often, so we had planned this lunch months in advance to make sure everyone could get there (and everyone could except for our two out of staters, and one other friend). We laughed and cried, and ate a lot of rolls. I love these girls so much! (PS, could you pray for Kaitlin and baby Jack? He’s two weeks old and is in the hospital with an infection. And please pray for her husband and her 20 month old daughter, too. This is hard on the whole family.)

(Kaitlin is the blonde.)

Memorial Day Saturday I was able to run in a neighborhood 5K that was benefiting the Prosperity Project, which is a non-profit here in town dedicated to rescuing child trafficking victims, and giving them the help they need after they’ve been rescued. This is such a scary thing, but it’s so prevalent right now. Head over to Operation Underground Rescue to read more about it and what you can do to help.

That same weekend, my mom and sister came to stay with us, and I got my hair cut and colored. We had a lot of fun with my family in town, and I am loving my hair! i just got a trim, but I went blonde(ish) and love it!

5 | Emma’s Shower + The Rest Of That Week/end

A couple of weekends ago I went to my good friend Emma’s baby shower. She is pregnant with a little boy, who they’re naming Owen (her maiden name) and I am just SO excited for her. Em was my assistant manager when I worked as a billing and office manager a few years back, and she was my life-saver. She is one of my very favorite people, and I’m so glad I got to help celebrate her and baby Owen. Her sister through such a fun party.

That same day we also went to a FREE dinner at Red Robin. They’re opening a new one in town (Praise! We love RR.) and they put together a few nights of free meals in order for the staff to be trained. All you need to do was make a reservation. So K and I enjoyed free burgers and fries, free drinks, a free dessert, and a free root beer float, and Abe got a free kids meal, as well. We left a $7 tip and kept saying it was the best $7 we’ve ever spent. Hoorah!

Sadlyyyyy that’s the weekend I came down with an eye infection. Earlier that week my eye had been teary, but it was over the weekend it started hurting quite badly. I got into the eye doctor that Monday morning, and was prescribed 2 antibiotics. It was pretty miserable, but thank goodness for modern medicine. (See this lovely instagram post for more info.)

And of course, let’s wrap up with the next weekend/last weekend. I spent part of Saturday at Youth Conference with the girls I teach at church, cleaning our church building and playing outdoors, and Kyle was able to go watch Taysom Hill (BYU’s QB) speak at a fireside that night. And then, Sunday, Father’s Day! Kyle is such a fantastic dad to our two kids. I feel lucky to have him. Oh-so-lucky. We went to church, had a nice roast dinner, and watched game 7. All in all, a successful day. Alsoooo I may have gotten him a squatty potty, because I’m clearly the best wife ever, or something 😉

Father's Day 2016

Phew, I think that’s all. Thanks for reading along, we’ve sure been having a lot of fun lately!
