Woof, you guys. This pregnancy has been no. joke. I’m currently 17 weeks now, and am finally, maybe, hopefully feeling at least a little bit better. I’ve been out of commission since the beginning of October and it’s really just been the worst. This baby is so wanted, and such a blessing, but man it’s been a rough go.
All that said, I wanted to share with you how to have a stress-free pregnancy, because I know that pregnancy can be an extremely stressful time (I’m on my 3rd, remember?!). From taking in all the information, to worrying about your weight gain and baby’s health, trying to decide where and how to deliver, etc., etc., your to-do list (and mind) are so overflowing with information that you can’t even begin to process any of it. I get it.
Write It All Out.
This my number one tip for anytime you’re feeling stressed out, so even if you’re not pregnant, feel free to try this, too! Grab a notebook and pen, take some time, and just write. Write out things you need to do, things on your mind, baby names that have been floating around, any worries you currently have, anything! Get it out of your head and down on paper. From there you can organize it any way you want — a to do list, crossing out your worries, making a baby name list, etc.
Make a To Do List
Going along with the first tip, create a to do list for baby (and if you’re crazy like me, organize it by month of your pregnancy with what you want to get done). That way, you’ll know what you need to do, and nothing will sneak up on you. You’ll have it all laid out and ready to go.
Take A Prenatal Vitamin.
Stressing about your baby’s health is something that you’ll experience at least once in your pregnancy. Is my baby growing properly? Is this symptom normal? Is my baby moving enough? The list goes on. By taking a prenatal vitamin, at least you’ll have peace of mind that your baby is getting the nutrients it needs. The Nature Made Prenatal Multi + 200 mg DHA (which you can pick up at Sam’s Club!) is made from carefully selected ingredients under strict manufacturing processes, meaning you can rest assured that you’re getting the best. You should start taking a prenatal 6 months before you get pregnant as they provide essential vitamins and minerals (before and during pregnancy) including Folic Acid, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Iodine, Vitamin B12, and Vitamin D3†. Plus they provide 200 mg DHA which may help support fetal brain and eye development †. Win-win! Again, you can find them at your local Sam’s Club — and who doesn’t always need an excuse to go there?
Choose The Right Care Provider.
There are a lot of options as far as providers go. OBGYNs, midwives, the list can go on. And of course each provider has their own personality, specialties, bedside manner, etc. It can be stressful to pick the right one. So first, ask around. See if there’s a name or two that stand out or are mentioned often. Make an appointment, get to know them! But guess what? If you end up not liking them — it’s OK to change doctors in the middle of your pregnancy. I promise. So if you don’t feel comfortable or love your doctor, go to a new one. Having a care provider that you really like and that hears and understands you will make all the difference.
Take Time For Yourself.
If you’re anything like me, and I’m guessing a lot of you are, getting stressed out makes you tired and cranky, and you need some time to yourself. That’s totally ok, especially when you’re pregnant 😉 It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant — take a bath, read a book you’ve been wanting to read, call a friend. Just something that sounds nice and relaxing to you, that will help you de-stress and regenerate. It will help you feel so much better!
I hope these tips will you help you have a stress-free pregnancy, or at least feel less stressed than you did before! Pregnancy can be a emotionally and physically demanding ride, but you’ll get through it, and will have a beautiful baby at the end that makes it all worth it 🙂
