Happy Monday! And Happy February! January was both long and short at the same time, don’t ask me how, but I am thrilled to be here in February, the shortest month of the year, and the month that I feel kind of propels us into spring and all that it brings. I have some other thoughts to share, but that will have to come later this week! Today I’m joining up with Mommy Style Monday. In case you don’t know, Mommy Style Mondays was created by Kiana and Madeline to showcase how different mommas have different styles, not only in clothing and fashion, but in the way they parent, create, and, well, just everything! We join together to share and celebrate those differences together, and to get ideas from other moms, as well! If you want to join us, you can sign up on Kiana or Madeline’s blogs (see links at the bottom of the post!).
Today we’re sharing some ideas for Valentine’s Day – not just for a spouse or significant other, but for and/or with your family and kids, too! My kids aren’t quite old enough to reallllly start traditions (meaning they won’t really remember what we do one year to the next yet), but they are old enough for me to start thinking about it, if that makes sense, ha!
Kyle and I aren’t HUGE into Valentine’s Day, like I know some people are. Kyle generally gets me a card, some chocolate, and roses, and I will give him a card and some chocolate, too. We’ll also go on a date, maybe somewhere a little fancier than our usually date nights, if we decide we want to. Nothing too crazy 😉 For the past 3 years (meaning this year will be the 3rd) we’ve enjoyed going to a Valentine’s Day couples party that I help put together with a few of my good friends here in town. Each year is a little different, and this year we’re doing a small “Sadie Hawkins” theme. It’s so fun to get together with our good friends, eat yummy food, and play some fun games.
As far as kids go, I’m not sure what we’ll end up doing, if anything. I’m torn, because on the one hand, Valentine’s Day in traditionally about couples and romantic love and it’s fun to keep it special that way, but at the same time, I think it’s so fun to celebrate all types of love, as well (and of course once kids are in school they’re having all sorts of little parties and sending valentines to one another). I’m excited to see what other mommas say about it today! Maybe we’ll go on a small family date each year, or give our kids special little valentines to remind them how special they are to us. Time will tell!
Don’t forget to check out these other moms and what they do for Valentine’s Day, and be sure to sign up for next month’s Mommy Style Monday!
