Well, May has come and gone, and with it came a baby! If you didn’t see my last post, Jonah Blake was born on Monday, the 21st (his due date!), and were all enjoying soaking him up in the newborn stage. The kids are smitten, Kyle and I are smitten, and we’re just feeling SO good. I thought I’d better share a GBOMB, since we did some fun things this month, and hopefully I’ll get Jonah’s birth story up in the next week or two!
GOOD
Obviously, our sweet boy being born. I had a great labor and delivery experience, and my recovery has been a dream. Everything went so smoothly, and I’m so grateful for that! Jonah is a sweetheart so far, very mellow, and I’m trying to soak up all that sweet new born-ness, knowing that he might be our last, and also realizing that I didn’t enjoy it enough with Eliza.
Kyle and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary! To celebrate, Kyle and I went to Palace Playhouse — a local community theater that provides both dinner and a show. The show they were currently performing was Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, which always provides a laugh, and as always we enjoyed our prime rib dinner. We went with our good friends, Tyler and Jana, who we don’t get to see too often, and just had a great evening together.
Kyle has been on paternity leave since May 14th, and we enjoyed that last week of being a family of four together immensely. He took the kids to the park and the zoo, we did several projects around the house, and my bestie Chelsea watched the kids one afternoon so we could go on a lunch date. Then, of course, we enjoyed last week together as a family of FIVE. It’s been so good you guys, so, so good. Yesterday (Tuesday the 29th), Kyle went back to work for the afternoon, and will continue doing some part-time work this week. I’m so grateful that he has such a great job where he can take time off to spend with us, especially while in recovery from childbirth. The kids and I both love having him home!
BAD
We found out one of my good friends is moving to Utah, and boy, will we all (our group of friends) miss her! We had a girls night last week just to get together and chat before she leaves (the girls night definitely falls in the good category), and we’re all a little sad to let her go.
The last 3 weeks of pregnancy — ha!
ON MY BRAIN
I mean, I’m apparently a mom of three now 😉 So that’s something new and strange to think about.
But beyond that, if you saw over on Instagram, the second Jonah was born, it was like a switch flipped. You know I’ve chatted before about how I felt depressed and not myself during this whole pregnancy — but throughout the labor and delivery process, and especially once he was born, it was like my old self came rushing back and I am feeling so good, so motivated, so excited about life. It’s been a VERY welcome change and I am so grateful for that. And in part because of that, I’ve been thinking about this summer, and what I’d like to do and accomplish. Obviously we have a sweet baby here, whose needs will trump any plans, but I have things I’d like to do, both around the house and with Abe and Eliza that I think will be very doable. And I’m so excited about it.
So there you go, May in a nutshell. It was a great month, and I’m looking forward to what the summer brings!
