I wanted to quickly catch up with the books I read during September, October, November and December of 2018. I’m not sure how I’m going to post book reviews moving forward… They take quite a lot of time to write up, so we’ll see! Maybe just quarterly, or just the books I really loved, or something. Who knows?! But for today, I’ll post a list of the books I really enjoyed and would recommend, followed by a list of the books I read that I didn’t really love. Although, if a book has a 3 star rating, I still thought it was good! I just rate most books 3’s if it doesn’t blow me away (and to be honest sometimes that takes a lot to do!), so keep that in mind 🙂
4 Stars and Above Books
Still Alice by Lisa Genova (4 stars).
Anything Lisa Genova writes is golden. She does her research and knows her stuff scientifically, but she is also able to capture human emotion and it’s just beautiful. She is majorly talented for sure.
Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis (4 stars).
I know this book is kind of controversial. Some people love it, and some people thought it was awful. I really enjoyed it, but it’s very easy for me to pick and choose parts of books that I like and don’t like, so the parts I liked, I really liked! I can get that it’s not for some people, and I can see why some wouldn’t like it, but overall, for me, it was a winner.
We Are Okay by Nina LaCour (4 stars).
Just a fabulous, real, YA novel. Read it.
Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens (4 stars).
Beautifully written, an intriguing story, and likable characters. I definitely would recommend this one to most.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid (4 stars).
This was a fun and unique read, and I loved getting to know Evelyn’s story.
*The Cheerleaders by Kara Thomas (4 stars).
This was a really fun YA mystery. Nothing too gritty, but a storyline I thoroughly enjoyed.
*An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen (4 stars).
Man, these girls know how to pack a punch! This book was fascinating and riveting and I just really, really liked it.
*The Night Olivia Fell by Christina McDonald (4 stars).
This was a perfect domestic thriller that had heart! I got so involved in the characters lives, and I CRIED at the end of the book. It’s not too often you cry at the end of a mystery, so that has to mean something.
*The Woman In The Window by AJ Finn (4 stars).
Was the writing amazing? Maybe, maybe not. But the twist at the end was one I didn’t see coming, which I thoroughly appreciated since it’s very rare I can’t see some part of what’s to come.
*The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides (4 stars).
OH MAN. Just read this one.
*The Devil Aspect by Craig Russell (4 stars).
This was such an interesting and riveting read. If you’re interested in psychology and different methods of therapy as well as historical fiction, definitely give this one a try.
*The Au Pair by Emma Rous (4 stars).
I really enjoyed this — it reminded me quite a bit of Kate Morton and Diane Setterfield books which I am all about, so if you enjoy those, I’m sure you will enjoy this.
