A Beginning At The End is a different type of post-apocalyptic book, one where the world has slightly come back from a pandemic event. There’s spotty internet, there’s news, there’s a form of government, but people are still afraid. It felt new. But in the end, it felt flat for me.
I wanted to like A Beginning At The End, I really did. The characters were mostly likeable, the idea was fascinating, and the emotional conflict and connection were there, but the plot as a whole just fell flat to me. I also really disliked the flashbacks — I mean, I want all the back story I can get in a story like this, but I hate when it just happens as a character is thinking. It is one of my least favorite literary devices.
Overall, not my favorite, but if it sounds interesting to you, still pick it up! I think there are a lot of people who enjoyed it!
