Ah, Fall. While it’s one of my favorite seasons (bring on the cardigans and boots after months of hot weather!), it’s also a season of sniffles and other symptoms. Today I’m going to share a few ways to prepare your home for cooler weather, because stocking up now will help you and your family be prepared for anything that might arise – whether it’s seasonal sniffles or unexpected guests.
“Spring Clean”
Or rather, “fall clean” 😉 Just like most people like to do a major overhaul at the end of the cooler weather months, it’s also a great idea to do the same at the beginning! After months of hot weather and lots of playing outside, your home is probably ready for a good old fashioned cleaning session. Swap out clothes that are too small or not appropriate for cold weather for ones that fit well and will work during the next few months. Make a run to a thrift store to donate any unused items around your house. Vacuum and mop your floors, and maybe even get crazy and wipe down your baseboards! 🙂 Use disinfectant wipes (or a spray and cloth) to wipe down all door knobs, and other often-handled surfaces. Get rid of any lingering germs so you can start with a “clean slate” since goodness knows how many pesky germs will be making their way into your house this fall!
Restock Your Medicine Cabinet
I love the cooler weather because of all the clothing options, but don’t enjoy all the sniffles and other symptoms that come along with the changing seasons and weather. Y’all know I’m a mom to a 2 year old and a 3 year old, so guaranteed that they’re going to get sick at some point. Now, sick kids I can handle, but you know what usually comes after sick kids? A sick momma (and occasionally a sick daddy, too). And I tell you what, moms don’t get sick days! So I like to make sure I’m prepared to handle any sickness that is thrown at me before it comes so I can start battling it the minute I feel it coming on. That way I’m still able to function and hopefully get over what I’ve got fast!
Some of my favorite items to keep on hand are:
Breathe Right Extra Clear Strips. There’s nothing worse than not being able to sleep because of how congested you are. Breathe Right Strips are drug free and safe to use with any sleep medication, and they can also reduce snoring (cough*myhusband*cough). I have sensitive and dry skin, so I like the clear strips, because they are made of a slightly different material that makes them easier to remove.
Halls Honey-Lemon Drops. I love these drops because they taste good, and help sooth sore throats and coughs.
Theraflu ExpressMax Severe Cold & Cough Syrup. Offers powerful relief, without needing a prescription! It treats my symptoms, so I can still take care of all the mom-ing duties that I need to!
TYLENOL® Cold + Flu Severe Caplets. All in one relief — I love it! TYLENOL® has been my go-to brand for years, and for good reason! It’s the #1 doctor recommended pain relief brand! So you know it’s good 😉
Make Sure Your Hand Soaps Are Antibacterial
This is something that’s so easy to do, but that I often forget about! I personally love foaming soap, and so Dial is my go-to. Dial Complete Foaming Hand Wash is antibacterial and kills 99.99% of germs. Plus it leaves your skin feeling healthy and soft, and smelling good – which is a must to me!
Stock Up On Kleenex
We go through a LOT of Kleenex during the cold weather months, and once you’re used to having Kleenex around, it’s not something you want to go without! I love Kleenex Anti-Viral tissues, they kill 99.9% of cold and flu viruses in the tissue! (Is there anything grosser than a used tissue?!) Plus, they’re such good quality you only need one tissue.
Switch To Fall Scents
I know this one is a bit silly, but I love to switch to different fall scents around my home. It just makes it feel so cozy. So no matter what you use – a diffuser, candles, a scented wax warmer – switch out your current scent with a fall-y one, and enjoy the atmosphere it brings to your home.
I hope you enjoyed reading about the ways I prepare for cooler weather. You can find all of the products I mentioned above at your local Kroger or Kroger banner store — we have a Fred Meyer just down the street from our home which is where I love to go. Plus, during the month of November there are a lot of savings to take advantage of, so you can stock up your home in preparation for the cooler weather months, too!
